Home grown Watermelon!

Do you remember we had watermelon creeper last year (link)? This time also watermelon seeds sprouted. The very first female flower showed up in mid June… After two days, it was a pleasant surprise that a tender fruit was seen in the place of the flower!

Home Grown Watermelon - Flowers and Fruit
Look at the dates; the fruit grew very fast in June. But, later on the growth stopped suddenly. Probably if I had fed the plant with more compost, it would have been larger. The plant dried in mid July. I plucked the fruit. It was very small in size. Surprisingly, this time it was dark red in colour and really very sweet!
