Summer, the season of Gulmohar! This photo capture in the month of May 2013, reminded me of my school days. Summer days never stopped us going near the red Gulmohar trees. We used to pick the flowers and wondered why it had ‘Tigernails’! Huliyuguru (= nail of tiger) is the name given to the green sepals of the Gulmohar flower. It was with red coloured inner layer. And these sepals were our artificial nails to scare others! How beautiful those days were!
ಆಹಾ! ಬೇಸಗೆಯ ಬೇಗೆಯ ಕಳೆಯಲೆಂದೇ ಅರಳುವ ಮೇಫ್ಲವರ್/ಗುಲ್ ಮೊಹರ್ ಎಂಬ ಈ ಮೇ ತಿಂಗಳ ಸುಂದರಿ ದಾರಿಯುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಹೂವಿನ ಚಪ್ಪರ ಹಾಸಿದ್ದರೆ ನೊಡಲು ಚೆಂದ! ಆಗಿನ್ನೂ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಓದುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಕಾಲ. ಶಾಲೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಮನೆಗೆ ವಾಪಸು ಬರುವ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗುಲ್ ಮೊಹರ್ ಮರ. ಆ ಮರದ ಹೂ ಹೆಕ್ಕಲೆಂದೇ ಶಾಲೆಗೇ ರಜೆ ಇದ್ದರೂ ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಸಂಭ್ರಮ. ಹೂವಿನ ಪಕಳೆಗಳ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ದಪ್ಪನೆಯ ಹಸಿರುಪತ್ರೆಗಳು. ಒಳಬದಿ ಕೆಂಪಾಗಿರುವ ಹಸಿರು ಪತ್ರೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಾವು ಹುಲಿಯುಗುರು ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆವು. ಅದನ್ನು ಕೈಉಗುರಿಗೆ ಅಂಟಿಸಿಕೊಂದು ಸಂಭ್ರಮಿಸಿ, ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಹೆದರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದದ್ದೂ ಉಂಟು! ಆ ಹುಲಿಯುಗುರೇ ನಮ್ಮ artificial nail ಮತ್ತು nail paint!
ಹೀಗಿದೆ ಗುಲ್ ಮೊಹರ್ ನೆನಪು! ಈ ಛಾಯಾಚಿತ್ರ ಮೊನ್ನೆ ಮೊನ್ನೆ ಬಂದು ಹೋದ ಮೇ ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮೂರಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ಲಿಕ್ಕಿಸಿದ್ದು.
